Hyatt Lake Tahoe, Wonderful Lake

Wonderful Lake Tahoe

Directly located at the shores of beautiful Lake Tahoe, this huge resort looks pretty luxurious from the outside. It has a large pool, a lovely private beach, three restaurants and its own casino. As we’re not that much into gambling, we didn’t visit the casino, but the gambling atmosphere kind of had its own charm. The whole interior looks very traditional. For my taste the wood of the furniture was a little bit too dark and the carpets were a little bit too thick 😉 Opening the entrance door, you immediately know that you’re in a hotel chain as it’s convenient, but not very exciting. Nevertheless, our room was spacious, well equipped and very comfortable.

Why come back

The idyllic lake itself is definitely worth a re-visit. The whole surrounding reminded us a little bit of Lake Garda. This is a huge compliment as this little part of northern Italy is one of our all-time favorites. The combination of a cristal clear lake, rough mountains and huge trees is overwhelming. And the possibilities are never-ending: You can explore the surroundings by hiking or biking, in summer time you can enjoy the sun, swim in the refreshing lake or try some of the many water sports they offer. In winter you can ski or snowboard there, which is probably really cozy. As it was summer time for us, we decided to do nothing except from swimming, stand-up paddling, canoeing, eating and relaxing 🙂

Room for improvement

The chaotic service at breakfast time wasn’t exactly what I would expect from a 4 star resort. Different people asked us the same questions again and again. Not that it helped. For example,  they brought me regular milk all mornings, even though I had ordered soy milk with my coffee every day. This definitely is a No Go. Imagine what could have happened, if I would really be allergic to milk… The wine they offered also was a big disappointment. All wines were either too sweet or too woody. In our optinion there’s no need for white wine to taste barrique. But maybe this is just our individual taste and other people like this Parker-style white wine.

Awesome sunset atmosphere

Totally in ♥ with

The atmosphere of the beach bar is amazing. Go there for a sun downer before dinner and listen to the great live music. Next time I would simply order a long drink instead of a white wine. A Gin Tonic usually always tastes the same. But back to the music. I really liked the guitar player that played on the first night. He had a dark, rough Johnny Cash style voice and I would have instantly hired him for our wedding 🙂

What my wife says

First, the good things. I really liked the beach and the direct access to Lake Tahoe. And at the beach they serve fish tacos that were the best I ever had. They were so delicious that I am still dreaming of them 😉

However, for this resort being a 4 star Hyatt and for being on honeymoon, the whole service experience was a bit disappointing. As a welcome drink they offered us some kind of champagne and claimed that we received it was their honeymoon gift to us. But in fact, everybody else that arrived after us also got the same welcome drink. Those of you who know me well, also know that I am a HUGE fan of any kind of sparkling wine. Unfortunately, theirs was the sweetest sparkling wine I ever had and didn’t taste special, at all. Don’t get me wrong. I didn’t expect expensive Moet et Chandon like champagne, just some solid dry bubbles 🙂

I guess the Hyatt is a nice place to go on for regular vacation, but not necessarily for honeymoon. Besides the sparkling wine there was no greeting card, small treat in the room or anything that would have shown that they realized that we were on honeymoon. On the contrary. To celebrate our honeymoon, we had asked the concierge to reserve us a table in their fine dining restaurant with a view of the lake. The lady was very nice and confirmed that she had reserved us a table with water view. But, big surprise in the evening. There was no free table with lake view and the waiters didn’t seem to care, at all. Neither did they apologize nor did they offer to move us to the next free table with lake view. The food they served was really was good and they put much effort in decorating everything nicely on the plates, but the service was not what I would expect from a hotel of that calibre.
